Managing Director - Arts North York

Toronto Arts Foundation seeks a Managing Director to take responsibility for planning, developing and operating Arts North York, an arts service organization currently in development under the direction of Toronto Arts Foundation. The Managing Director will work under the guidance of TAF’s Executive Director, reporting to the Director of Operations.
PURPOSE
Arts North York is a proposed arts service organization currently in an incubation phase. The Managing Director will be responsible for planning, developing and operating Arts North York and overseeing its eventual transition into an independent arts service organization. S/he will implement the recommendations of the Arts North York study completed by Toronto Arts Foundation in May 2011. In accordance with these recommendations, the Managing Director will work under the direction of Toronto Arts Foundation and maintain communication with the many stakeholders who participated in the study.
Development:
The Managing Director will develop and implement all planning for the instigation of Arts North York, including:
- establishing mandate, vision and priorities for the organization
- developing a strategic plan for the incubation phase of the organization
- developing a three year operations plan and administrative structure that will meet the objectives of Arts North York
- developing a governance model for the new organization
- creating a transition plan for the operations of an independent organization
- budgeting, financial management and bookkeeping
Operations
The Managing Director will oversee all aspects of programming for Arts North York, including:
- provision of arts services, particularly marketing and promotion services for North York artists and groups
- developing and implementing a communications strategy for Arts North York
- overseeing development and implementation of web site
- fundraising and grant writing
- facility management
- office administration
- supervision of volunteers and interns
- recruitment of Advisory Panel
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years management experience working in an arts environment and will demonstrate:
- Broad based expertise in managing an arts organization
- Ability to implement and oversee all programming and management for a new arts service organization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational abilities
- Experience working with volunteers, donors and corporate sponsors
- A talent for working collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Powerpoint and Excel is essential. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, web 2.0, web-hosting, electronic communications, and database software is an asset.
EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: This is a full-time, contract position to begin in early July.
